Manual workers to lose their pay-fight champion

Wednesday 20th April 2011, 2:30PM BST.

Ron Le CrasTHOUSANDS of public sector employees will lose their local union representative when Ron Le Cras (pictured) steps down from Unite next month.

The regional industrial organiser has helped to win numerous victories for States’ workers in the past seven years, but said it was now time to retire.

Locally, Unite has decided that there is currently no one suitable to fill the post.

There are around 2,500 union members – most of them public sector workers.

Responsibility to represent them will soon fall to regional officer Bob Lanning, who will fly over from Bournemouth at the end of May to take on the role for a minimum of two days a week.
