Planners back balcony and decking for Vazon kiosk

Thursday 21st April 2011, 11:30AM BST.

Nick Percy, Vazon Bay CafeVAZON BAY CAFE could be completely revamped if Environment board members back planners’ recommendations at an open meeting next week.

A planning application report has recommended that permission be given to extend the cafe at the front and sides, create a balcony overlooking the beach and a raised decking area at the back.

But the final decision will be down to the department’s board on Tuesday.

Proprietor Nick Percy (pictured) has had several previous applications to improve the site knocked back.

Great stuff. Can someone do the same with that awful toilet block at the Half Way?

I have gone to use that toilet block and found it closed and vandalised, so can’t think that a Cafe would fair any better there :| and a Cafe would need loos anyway, so might mean they would reopen :)

Martino – you want a balcony on the toilet block?! Not sure I particularly want to see people relieving themselves in the fresh air!!

Agree with you AJ – Let’s hope this gets passed. As I mentioned on an earlier thread the current building looks like a decaying bus terminus and, given its location is hardly a good advert for Guernsey.

Martino – When I walked past that block last Sunday it was all closed up. If they’re not going to use the toilets my suggestion would be to knock the bloney thing down.

Hi Paul and Mark. Without wishing to get off the gist of this story that we all seem to agree on (long overdue) I must clarify my thoughts on the horrible edifice at the Half Way.
I’d like to see it razed to the ground too and replaced with a modern cafe with balcony, terrace, parking, modern toilets, and yes even disabled access. The Environment Dept should be prepared to rent the site out for a quid for 50 years to anyone who is prepared to invest in such a project.

PS The whole new facility, including toilets, would have to be locked up at nights/when the cafe is closed because it would be instantly vandalised otherwise. The current loo block at Half Way is no use at all.

Honestly, i would do Mr Lloyd, if I was loaded. I feel quite passionate about this little fantasy project of mine, but unless I win the lottery… which is why I’d like like Environment effectively to give the Half Way site to any entrepreneur who’d be willing to develop an east coast version of the Vazon Bay Caf!

Paul Le Page – i can not help that all of your opinions are un-reserched and very left wing. I would suggest looking into the matters at hand rather than openly shouting suggestions wildly.

i for one am against this.

I`m at pains to see how a rebuilt cafe at the Halfway would work. I don`t find the Halfway nearly as attractive as Vazon and the parking`s not as good either. Oh, I forgot…of course: with everybody switching to bikes due to the rising fuel prices it wouldn`t matter, eh!

It would work at the Half Way in the same way that the Boulangerie Victor Hugo works a little further down the east coast. Also, for my money (or lack of it!) the sunrise view from the east coast, with Herm and the other smaller islands as a backdrop, is even more attractive than the sunset view along the west coast.

Does anybody actually get up early enough to view the sunrise?
