Alderney faces up to public pensions deficit
Saturday 23rd April 2011, 2:29PM BST.
ALDERNEY’S States is ‘acutely aware’ that its final salary pension scheme for public workers is unsustainable and needs to change, the Policy and Finance Committee has confirmed.
Chairman John Beaman (pictured) addressed the issue in his committee’s States report to present Alderney’s audited accounts.
He announced the island’s public sector pension scheme’s deficit had increased from £1.3m. to more than £1.6m. by the end of 2010 – Alderney has about 50 States employees.
The scheme is separate from Guernsey’s public-sector scheme and is managed by a pension administrator in Alderney.
