No major upsets as top seeds reach finals
Tuesday 26th April 2011, 2:29PM BST.
DEFENDING champion and top seed Garry Dodd will play second seed Olly Langlois in a repeat of last year’s men’s singles final in the island table tennis championships.
All eight seeds expectedly made their way to the quarter-finals, but some were tested on their way.
In the opening round Langlois had to overturn a two-game deficit to get the better of Phil Hunkin in six games, while another tough first-round encounter saw fifth seed Paul Hainsworth made to work hard to get the better of Lawrence Stacey, also in six hard-fought games.
Dodd (pictured) was in top form at the start of his quarter-final encounter against Hainsworth, comfortably cruising to a 3-0 lead.
