HOPES of keeping St Saviour’s Tavern as a pub were dashed when an application to convert the site into flats was approved at yesterday’s open planning meeting.
In a split decision, the board backed the plans to convert the premises, known popularly as The Ritz, into three residential units and to reconfigure the car park on the northern side of Grande Rue.
Peter Falla, a director of architects PF + A, who submitted the plans on behalf of the applicant, St Saviour’s Landholders Ltd, said he was pleased with the board’s decision.
‘We’re pleased that the planning process is now open,’ he said. ‘You could hear both sides of the argument today. It demonstrates how the department deals with applications now.’

Perhaps if all those signing the petition had actually used the Ritz on a regular basis it wouldn’t have closed in the first place?

It seems that the States are hell bent on destroying the community spirit in St. Saviours… Everything that closes is not allowed to re open with a similar /same business because suddenly the planning policies change, yet anywhere else in the Island it’s a different story! where was the shouts of “insufficient light industrial units” when Co-op got change of use to Leales Yard? Where was the Non rural area plan policies when a large English garden center was developed in an area where no new developements can be allowed? How can other retail sites be allowed to develop and extend into a garage when a few hundred feet in both directions a beuty salon is refused as is our gift shop which is NOT developing anything new but using the previous shop unit that was already there! Why can Finance companies change light industrial units to storage and archive yet others who try to change the use get told, “no, It’s policy” St. Saviours in particular seems to have a vendetta against it and it’s heart is being ripped out of it’s community. Even the constables who are fighting to keep what they have left of their Parish seem to be being totally ignored by People who should be working FOR the public but instead it seems they only want to line there pockets at our expense! There are a lot of Deputies out there who are more than happy to allow mere civil servents to run this Island of which most don’t even have a local heart in them …..only English Tripe!!!
