GUERNSEY’S new Lt-Governor experienced his first States meeting yesterday.

Deputies stood as Air Marshal Peter Walker entered the chamber and was welcomed by the Bailiff, Sir Geoffrey Rowland.

Sir Geoffrey gave a brief history of the States of Deliberation and expressed the Assembly’s dedication to the Crown.

He joked that unlike Alderney’s recent States meeting, the day’s debate would last longer than 45 minutes.

Air Marshal Walker can observe a States’ sitting but is not allowed constitutionally to take part in debate.

Tomorrow he will attend the Royal Wedding.
