PLANNING approval has been given for more cycle parking facilities in Town.
The biggest change will be on the Crown Pier where an additional 15 cycle hoops, including five under cover, will be installed.
Two cycle hoops will be fitted at the bottom of Market Steps while 10 hoops and two shelters will be placed at North Beach.
Cyclists welcomed the initiative.

So we are set to see yet more money wasted by our spend-thrift States – this time on cycle shelters and hoops! The route from St Sampsons to town is hardly used. From a window facing the cycle path a security camera counted only 19 cycles using the cycle lane last Wednesday morning. What a waste of money and space!!!!

As a person who uses that cycle path many times I week I would take exception to the comment from GLeP. I frequently find it very difficult to find space at several of the cycle parks in St Peter Port namely North Beach, in front of the De La Rue pub and, in particular at the top of Smith Street. Anything that makes cycling easier should be applauded, not discouraged.

I fail to see the merit in sheltered cycle hoops.
