Elena must take down fence put up to keep her daughter safe
Tuesday 10th May 2011, 2:29PM BST.
PENSIONER Elena Cook has been given 28 days to take down a fence that Environment says does not fit in with its surroundings.
Mrs Cook, 65 (pictured), lost an appeal in July last year to keep the fence at her home at Les Rouvets, Vale, which protects anyone in her garden from a 10ft drop into the road.
In October she was told to take the fence down but she ignored that and has now been issued with a compliance notice.
‘The amount of time I’ve spent on this thing, I’ll find myself taking an axe to it,’ she said.
‘I just think of my daughter or the man cutting the grass – what happens if he feels dizzy and goes over the wall?’

It was liberation day anniversary yesterday.today it’s back to normal
Liberation is farcical according to those in brown suits They have takern over and should be put in their place.
I’m not saying it’s a good fence; however I do say with the amount of money these people spend on trivialities, then they should help this woman and come with suggestions, instead of ruling like some old fashioned land owner.

Why not find out what barrier would be accepted?

Regarding the Gardener.
I never thought of that! thats it no more climbing up scaffolding, driving my van or climbing across the rocks when i`m ormering:).
And i would imagine your daughter would need to be pole volter or use a trampoline to get over that fence, could`t you have put something else there instead?.

Meanwhile Stan Brouard’s hangar 500 yards up the road is of course totally ‘congruous’
Meanwhile the rat infested rubble heaps at Admiral Park are still there

Ms Cook, you have had your 15 minutes of fame several time over, just comply and stop wasting Environment’s time, does it occur to you that your time wasting is holding other more important issues up?

Right said pyre, I dislike how the article is implying the states are anti safety, I’m sure she’s allowed and encouraged to have a wall, so long as it’s fitting and not a nasty one like the current.

Once again Guernsey proves it’s still run by the nazis!

You know pbfalla. it must be awful for you having swallowed a gramophone record,
‘Rules are rules, are they not?
However every man to his own.
But to say the lady keeps on and should think of other more important things to be sorted out.
I disagree.
What can be more important than a mother trying to protect her child
IS THAT SO WRONG?

I’m confused, are you insinuating that the only purpose of the new Stan Brouard building is to stop children falling into the road??
If not I fail to see a valid comparison against a fence and a building that will bring extra revenue into the island. Because the last time I drove past it, it looked largely unfinished, and by unfinished I mean the landscaping and environmental improvements that were in the submitted plans havent even been started yet.

Once again someone has to top the board with the most ridiculous comment, well done.

No. I have never thought that the purpose of Stan Brouard’s massive building is to prevent people falling into the road (In fact I signed his petition when he was up against the brick wall that is Environment)
What I was trying to point out that in the space of approximately 500 yards there are two clear examples of what the planners deem congruous and incongruous, and it seems to me that they have them a*se about face

Sorry was just having a bit of fun!
I completely understand your point, the only thing I can think is that it was a fairly ugly view around the back of there from the road before, and even though there are now more buildings, I think when its all done, it will look better than before.
You do raise good a point about their rather flippant usage of congrous and incongrous with surrounding,as reasons for permission or mostly refusal. We definately need more transparency and openess from this lot particulalry in this area. I’m afraid the staged meeting recently is nowhere near enough for average joe to understand the thought processes behind their decisions!
