GUERNSEY said an emotional farewell to 201 Squadron yesterday on the 66th anniversary of the Liberation.
Nearly 90 members of Guernsey’s Own at RAF Kinloss joined in the festivities for the last time as a group following the October decision to close the station as part of UK defence cuts.
Commanding officer Wing Commander Mike Blackburn told a reception at Castle Cornet on Sunday night that 201 felt a tangible affection from the whole island demographic.
He hoped that one day a squadron would again bear the 201 mantle which was why, instead of goodbye, he was saying a la perchoine, the Guernsey-French expression for, until the next time.
