I’d only be a billionaire if we sold the business

THE owners of Specsavers have no intention of selling the company any time soon.
Co-founder Dame Mary Perkins (pictured) was responding to news that she had been ranked 56th in the latest Sunday Times Rich List, along with her husband, Douglas.
The guide valued the optical group at £1.1bn, an increase of 42% on the year before, which the authors claimed made Dame Mary Britain’s first self-made female billionaire.
‘It is interesting to see the company valued so highly in the Sunday Times, but any figure could only ever be realised if the company was sold, which has never been part of the Specsavers strategy,’ she said.
