GIVING more support to people with mental health problems would save the States money, according to charity Guernsey Mind.

The group has launched a two-year programme to discuss with employers and organisations how to help people with mental problems go back to or stay in work.

‘We want to talk to employers about how to make the workplace more mentally healthy,’ said Emily Litten, senior advocacy liaison officer for Guernsey Mind.

‘It is also about talking to employers about how to support employees. There is a lot of work to do. We are looking to Jersey and other countries to see what they do.’

I wish Labour and Welfare (as they used to be called) had given more help to such people in the early days of my working life.
I`m glad though something`s being done now.
