VALE’S war memorial is staying where it is.

A round of applause broke out in the douzaine room last night as the vote of nearly 100 parishioners was read out.

Considering that the majority of those who spoke on the issue were firmly against moving the memorial, the final vote of 55 against and 42 for surprised some in attendance.

The deliberation given to moving the memorial – from its position at the junction of Vale Avenue, Braye Road, Croft Lane, Route des Coutures and Summerfield Road to the grounds of the douzaine room – has been a controversial topic within the parish for the last year.

Common sense and democracy wins here for a change. We are all to blame at times as we don’t get involved enough and let a handful of people dicate to us. Well done to Bernie, Alison and all who have been involved in this issue. It was placed in its current position for a reason and should remain so.

You can bet your bottom dollar that someone had an alternative use for that place.

That’s the trouble, too much behind the back–

    Well done to common sense
Those men gave their lives for our Island, therefor let the Memorial to those brave men remain where it was planned.

Those. who suggested moving it should be publicly reprimanded.
