ENT surgeon did not breach duty of care, court decides

SURGEON Richard Vowles did not breach his duty of care when operating on a patient, the Royal Court ruled yesterday.
Sharon Williams actioned Mr Vowles (pictured) after being left with a permanently damaged vocal cord after a routine to remove a lump on her thyroid gland in 2007.
She said Mr Vowles’ failure to identify a key nerve, which must have been damaged during the procedure, amounted to negligence.
But yesterday, after a four-day hearing, the three jurats unanimously decided in favour of Mr Vowles.
