Elderly care delay cost warning was ‘desperate’

Andrew Le LievreA LETTER warning States members that more than £1m. could be needed for significant repairs to Maison Maritaine and Longue Rue House should the Assembly delay redevelopment plans has been described as ‘a bit desperate’ by the deputy trying to put the brakes on.

And the fact Housing had suddenly released additional financial information relevant to the projects highlighted the argument that the original report on the plans was incomplete, he added.

Deputy Andrew Le Lievre (pictured) responded yesterday after Housing minister Dave Jones wrote to all States members urging them to reject the sursis attempting to delay plans to redevelop the two residential homes as extra-care housing units.

The delaying motion was placed after four out of the five Health and Social Services board members – the department signed off the joint report with Housing – expressed concerns about how the new housing would be funded.

Why should there be such discussions?

The elderly folk gave their all for their Island, in thick and thin years…

‘The States squander money without blinking an eyelid.

Old folk are Human beings you Know–

It will be good to see decent honest folk after the next election.

They do not ask for Buckingham palace or even new buildings for lawyers and such like-

Why; they never even asked for armoured transport, or marinas for their boats.

They simply would like to see proper control on repairs and such like, to the place they call HOME- home for the rest of their lives.

IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
