RIDERS in the Carey Olsen inter-insular road cycling events had an added incentive to win this year.

The winners of each category were presented with a Channel Islands Champion jersey, featuring green and red bands around the chest and the flags of Guernsey and Jersey.

This follows the tradition in professional cycling for reigning national champions to wear a special jersey in their national colours at all races, thus helping them to stand out from the crowd.

Guernsey was particularly dominant in the inter-insular competition this year, despite having a number of the island’s top riders racing overseas.
