LT-GOVERNOR Air Marshal Peter Walker opened Guernsey’s new Royal Guernsey Militia Regimental Museum yesterday by using a medieval sword to cut the ribbon.
He then announced to the crowd of invited guests: ‘I cannot tell you how relieved I am that that worked.’
The new museum at Castle Cornet follows the militia from its origins in around 1331, through centuries of facing off the French threat, to its disbandment in 1939.
Weapons, hats, uniforms and medals have been cleaned and conserved by museum staff, who have worked on exhibitions for the last three years.

Every visit to Castle Cornet is an adventure and this new addition will add to it. Shame about the entrance fee, it makes for a rather expensive family day out. But I’ll be there soon!

This is something that will interest you & probably many others. The Channel Island Occupation Society & Festung Guernsey are doing sterling work to preserve local history for future generations to experience & appreciate.
They have completed lots of awesome projects already. Many are well known. Some are still in the making.
Their website is well worth spending an hour or two to understand how much hard work has gone in to preserving such an important time in history.

Well Ray
You have your thoughts, albeit I doubt if you ever had a situation that made you think.
“Is death better than this”?
If you have, then you’ll understand not only my thoughts of which you speculate (at no cost to yourself) and the reality of the times.
‘My answer is the same as always.
They were cowards, they had the men at arms against civilians, and the young ones were the ones that was picked on.
The older ones, like my father who had served in WW1, kept quiet.
However you have your thoughts, I know mine.
