Resignation threat as extra care homes are backed

Friday 27th May 2011, 11:30AM BST.

Andrew Le LievreMAISON Maritaine and Longue Rue care homes will be redeveloped into extra care housing in a project that will cost the States £22m.

Once the work is complete, it will mean more independent living for the people accommodated there.

But the political ramifications of the decision are still to be fully felt, with Deputy Andrew Le Lievre considering resigning from both Health and Social Services and Social Security as a result of the decision.

‘If I resign, it’s not going to be because of what’s said in this Assembly, it’s because I’m going to find it very difficult to work with some of the people I have to work with,’ said Deputy Le Lievre (pictured).

My goodness me; if a few more–no I’m wrong there, if the rest of that tawdry mob did the same then we might get some justice for the Islanders.

    What a cheek?

Now it should not be a case of “I might resign”

    Boot him out now.

Andrew Le Lievre has not struck me over the last 3 years as an intelligent or resourceful representative. He was so pleased to gain seats on both these committees at the start of his term. Now that things aren’t going his way he wants to threaten that he could back out.
Do just that Dep Le Lievre, you may not be able to work or lend support to your committees, they could well feel the same about you.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to have elderly relatives know that they can be overwhelmed with anxiety about what happens, and where they can feel settled and comfortable, once they decide they no longer want to run their own homes. As far as we are concerned, the more choices available for them, the better their quality of remaining life will be.
