ARGYLLS are the new champions of Guernsey cricket.

Three sides went into Saturday’s final round of GCA Championship matches with a chance of claiming the title, but as arguable favourites ORs slipped up against Elizabeth College, the black-and-greens did what they had to do by beating Wanderers with maximum bonus points to overtake Cobo at the top of the table.

Star of the day for Argylls was their captain, island star GH Smit, who once again showed his big-game temperament with a hundred when it really mattered.

However, he admitted that he was not expecting to win the championship at the start of the campaign.
