West will soon compete again
Monday 30th May 2011, 2:30PM BST.
LEADING hedge fund manager Crispin Odey believes rapid inflation in the emerging world will help the West become more competitive again.
The Odey Asset Management founder was speaking ahead of an investment seminar in the Hatton Gallery at Castle Cornet to mark the third anniversary of the Odey Opportunity Fund, which is managed locally by Odey Wealth Management.
Mr Odey (pictured) , who was 177th in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated fortune of £453m., said the West was struggling because domestic wage inflation was insufficient to offset imported wage and commodity price inflation.
‘The good news is that at some point the developed economies will become competitive again with the emerging economies and the West will move from a world of deflationary fears to one where wages can rise.’
