THE world No. 20 proved too tough an obstacle for Heather Watson to overcome yesterday.
Shuai Peng defeated the Guernsey girl in straight but highly contrasting sets in the third round of the Aegon Classic at the Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham.
Watson matched her illustrious opponent game for game throughout an even first set as neither player gave up a break of serve on centre court.
However, Peng took control of the tie-break, allowing Watson just one point as the set slipped away from the Sarnian.
The Chinese player, who at 25 is six years Watson’s senior, carried that momentum into the second set, which she cruised through.
