WEARING the Jamaican national kit, Tom Druce produced the fastest 300m time in Britain this year at Foote’s Lane on Saturday.
Druce’s effort was one of a wide range of fine individual performances from Island Games-bound athletes who made full use of the timing and competitive nature of the Intertrust Golden Series meeting.
Druce, 24, clocked a personal best 33.40sec. for the rarely run 300, beating a decent field of UK opponents drafted in especially.
It was just the sort of performance Druce needed ahead of doubling up over 200 and 400m in the Isle of Wight and he seemed destined to win from the moment he quickly made up ground down the back straight on Loughborough’s Paul Johnson and Sale’s Umar Hameed outside him.
