Getting the ferries back on time is top priority for C&E minister

CONDOR Ferries’ return to normal service is the top priority for Commerce and Employment, its minister has said.

Deputy Carla McNulty Bauer (pictured) said it was a concern that both high-speed vessels that are serving Guernsey were having problems and the department was receiving regular updates from Condor.

It was expected the vessels would be running at normal speed this week.

Speaking on yesterday’s BBC Guernsey phone-in, she said: ‘I and Commerce and Employment do regret the disruption and distress caused to passengers by the current difficulties.’

Deputy McNulty Bauer, with all due respect you have more chance of finding a cure for cancer. Good luck.

Isn’t this comment from the Minister somewhat out of date? The incident she is referring to was triggered on 6 June. I had to laugh at her comment “I and C&E, etc” I thought she was part of it. Smacks of Maggie Thatchers’ turn of phrase, “we are a grandmother”.

    A further missive from the “I” ‘& C&E’:

Have just looked at Channel News, priorities having been cleaning patio and sorting seedlings, not sure why since we are in for October weather most of the week.

Well guess what? Top ‘story’ is, ‘Your help to Shape Employment Laws’.

Seems only 103 of us responded and the overall majority thought that areas needed to be addressed are:

    Age discrimination
    Disability discrimination
    Statutory right to redundancy
    ” maternity leave
    ” paid holiday

Thereafter follows a load of waffle via SOG speak.

    The outcome from “I” & ‘C&E’:

    Disability discrimination
    Age discrimination
Racial discrimination – no mention of this in the must haves, a right minded CC must have put “I” up to date.
    Statutory right to redundancy pay
    ” paid leave

However, “due to ongoing blah blahs”, (no doubt encompassing totally vital trips to, maybe Russia? And, there might be another CPA add on)”I” has advised that we can not expect to see any of these in the working place before 2012.

Strike a chord does it? Election year, that is the time when committees chose their mandates and incumbent costings.

I for one am not holding my breath.

You know that minister has one thing in her favour..
If it can be so classed; I think another way.

However she is so good with words, I’ve read so many of her attempts.

But like water in a sieve;there’s nothing in it.

Blown up balloons then gradually loosing all the wind.
