How dare you make us relive dad’s death?

Monday 13th June 2011, 1:00PM BST.

Kevin DelaneyTHE sons of a Sark resident whose death has become the centre of a political row have expressed their outrage at the Sark Newsletter.

In a joint letter addressed to Sark Estate Management managing director Kevin Delaney (pictured), who compiles the newsletter, Mark Lanyon junior said that the publication had caused the family a great deal of distress at a time when they were still grieving.

‘I feel that it is wrong of you to have used our father’s demise for your own political agenda,’ said Mr Lanyon.

The newsletter had claimed that Mark Lanyon senior, who died from a heart attack in April, could have survived if the Sark authorities had allowed the use of the Brecqhou helicopter.

    @ The Lanyon Family

How right of you to express your disgust, even at such a sad time.

Do the community of Sark have an option re receiving this ‘news letter’, or is it just shoved through doors, as is the Globe on Guernsey?

My feeling, if in your shoes would be to get your community together, collect this recent hugely distasteful article and dump it on Brecqhou’s front lawn.

I don’t know if they would handle this sort of thing… but if the family and the majority of the Sark islanders are unhappy / disgusted about this article, which I can clearly see why they would be, wouldn’t a complaint to the press complaints commission be appropriate?

Woody, unfortunately, I have a sneaking suspicion that the SNL does not subscribe to the PCC (which involves paying a fee).

It really is nothing more than a hard copy blog or a student pamphlet – unsolicited and unaccountable. It is just a shame that it is given so much exposure via the GP.

My sympathies again go to the Lanyon family for this distasteful episode.

disgusting, as a Guernsey man i am getting sick and tired of S.E.M rubbish they are coming out with and every body is saying the same, pack your bags and go back to where you come from.

Further to all the above comments and this particular article and having read the SNL published 10th June 2011.
I would suggest that SNL has committed an offence by publishing a blow by blow of Mr. Lanyons last hours, which are in Mr. Lanyons PRIVATE Medical Records.
How did SNL obtain this information? Who gave it the right to publish these?
I personally believe the Guernsey Police should investigate this! If not why not?

I do not think that it was a matter for Sark Newsletter to have brought up the issue in the first place, especially in such a public way.
It was at the very least presumptuous (although I have no idea if Sark Newletter contacted Mr Lanyon’s family first) and in bad taste to have made such suggestion during the period of mourning. One would assume that it would have been for Mr Lanyon’s family to have raised any issues at an appropriate time.

No the sark new’s letter did not contact the family & i know that they were very upset & annoyed that their father’s name was used.
