The gardens and greenhouse at the Guernsey Cheshire Home have been given a make-over thanks to Carey Olsen’s charities committee.

Members of staff and their families volunteered to help with a number of outdoor projects over two days including planting trees and painting benches.

“This garden project has been a fantastic opportunity for Carey Olsen staff and their families to get together out of the office, in the fresh air and to help a great local charity,” said Richard Field, chairman of the Carey Olsen charities committee.

“The Guernsey Cheshire Home does such amazing work in the island and I really hope the residents and day visitors enjoy spending time in the gardens,” Richard said.

The charities committee helped to improve a number of the home’s outdoor areas including the back garden, where the residents spend most of their time, the greenhouse, car park and the sensory garden.

The areas were spruced up with new hanging baskets full of colourful flowers, a magnolia tree, a cherry tree, bird feeders and raised planters with a mixture of herbs and plants.

The greenhouse was also filled with a variety of plants including sweet peas, strawberries and rhubarb and a number of benches were cleaned and weather-proofed.

“The residents, their families and the staff at the Cheshire Home really appreciate the hard work and effort that the employees from Carey Olsen have put in to making the gardens look lovely for the summer time. When the weather is nice residents spend a lot of their time in the gardens, so it’s great that they’ll have lots of beautiful new plants and trees to enjoy,” said Jurat Stephen Jones, Chairman of the Cheshire Home.

The Guernsey Cheshire Home provides individual care and support for adults living with severe physical disabilities. The home also provides support through day visits and respite services which improves the lives of many individuals and families in the island.
