TWO of Guernsey’s brightest young athletics stars made their mark in record-breaking style yesterday.

The Secondary Inter-Schools championships at Foote’s Lane saw five records broken, with both Eben Marsh and Katie Rowe getting in on the act.

Marsh, who is travelling to next week’s Island Games to run the 400m, lowered the Year 9 mark to 52.70sec. over the one-lap distance, taking two-tenths off the previous record set a decade ago.

But Rowe went even better, shattering the Year 8 girls 1500m record, originally set way back in 1988 by Lisa Sylvester’s effort of 5min. 16.0sec.
