THE world number three proved too much for a brave Heather Watson yesterday in Eastbourne.
The 19-year-old British number two was given a wild card into the main draw of the Aegon International WTA event at Devonshire Park, but the luck of the draw saw her pitched against the top seed, Vera Zvonareva, in the first round.
Watson showed her Guernsey stubbornness to keep the Russian on court for an hour and 20 minutes, mixing it well with her illustrious opponent before succumbing 6-3, 6-3.
On her Facebook page last evening, Watson posted: ‘Really enjoyed playing against Vera Zvonareva today. It was a great experience and thought I played well.’
