CONDOR Ferries could lose its operational licence if it does not significantly improve its service, Jersey’s Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean has said.
In a strongly worded statement to the Jersey States, the minister said that Condor’s current service was ‘well below acceptable standards’.
And he warned that if the firm wanted to continue providing a car and passenger service it must consider whether it needs to invest in a new fleet of ferries.

Then how will we get off of this island via car? What stupid words from Jersey’s States members. I don’t see any competition, HD Ferries isn’t running anymore!

Isn’t Jersey harbour part of the problem? A harbour that can’t be used at low tide isn’t much use to ferry companies if a slight delay in their timetable leaves them stranded in the channel.
Condor – fix your ferries
Jersey – dredge your harbour

Jersey really has little to complain about when it has many more sailings, no inter-island transfers, and a harbour which causes timetable variations for everbody else.
So if Condor’s current service in Jersey is “well below acceptable standards” then its standard of service in Guernsey must be virtually off the radar.
What I don’t undertand is the rationale of some people on this forum who are content to put up with a substandard ferry service and make excuses for it e.g. it’s island life and Condor is doing its best – I bet they wouldn’t be prepared on the same basis to put up with poor food, restaurants and hotels, slow internet connections, and bad teachers, schools and nurses etc.

I seem to recall a few years back Guernsey was considering choosing P & O Ferries over Condor, but it was Jersey that swung the decision in favour of keeping Condor. Perhaps Guernsey can kick Condor out and say yes to a larger ferry company like P & O or Brittany Ferries who will bring reliable services and hopefully cheaper fares!
