More landline phone operators welcomed
Thursday 16th June 2011, 1:00PM BST.
COMPETITION in the landline market would drive down prices, according to Airtel-Vodaphone’s vice-president.
And islanders spoken to by the Guernsey Press yesterday all agreed that competition would be good for the Bailiwick.
The Office of Utilities Regulation has been assessing landline services in Guernsey and Jersey and has suggested that new providers could come on board as early as spring 2012.
Airtel-Vodafone vice-president Ian Campbell (pictured) said that he needed more detail from the regulator before expressing an interest in entering the landline telephone market in Guernsey and Jersey – but expected that competition would lower costs.

Love the sound but Island retail market too small, only benefit will be seen from the business market.
Please deal with the real issue and that is the cost of data roaming in UK, should not be as stupid priced as it is to be barred, what is it £5 per Mb, ridiculous.
SORT IT OUT….

Competition in Guernsey would be fantastic, I dont know about you but i am fed with paying just over £40 a month for line rental and broadband, when i have friends and family in the UK paying £15 to £20 for theirs! Drive down the prices increase the speed and qaulity of the service!

No question about it, we are getting comprehensively stuffed – as usual. I hate the way so many companies are moving to 0870/0845 etc. numbers which are expensive enough without Cable & Wireless adding on a few more pence per minute. No wonder they keep you holding for so long when one call can make the phone operator and company you are calling several pounds. I recommend this website:
http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php
and also Wave’s Yourcall service:

I have used both for years and they have saved me a lot of cash.

AR
Switch tariffs, or provider, or both, if you want to save some money
Sure line rental is £9 a month.
Wave will give you broadband AND mobile for £19 a month. That makes £28 a month.
I beleive Tribal get 10% of savings they find – so that’s £1.20 a month you owe me …
No amount of regulation or competition is going to save money for you if you can’t be bothered to do some of the work for yourself ….
