ISLANDERS have a right to know what went wrong at the new Les Beaucamps High build after a floor beam collapsed, concerned parents have said.

As Education and contractor R G Falla yesterday continued with their refusal to provide details of the incident, parents of current Les Beaucamps High students expressed their unease about the accident.

The department and contractor also refused to respond to reports that the problems could result in the project being delayed by 10 weeks.

Housewife Sarah Harvey, 41, demanded full disclosure of the collapse.

Instead of being ‘concerned about safety’, why do these anxious parents not have faith in both the integrity of the main contractor, and the Health and Safety report on the incident, which will take a while to be produced

Once the facts are out, express your concerns then if you must – just don’t get involved in idle, media driven speculation

Agreed. This could end up in Court so I don’t think
it would be wise at this stage to confide in Mrs Harvey

Exactly, well said. I have and can see what has happened here though. The school gate gaggle have been chatting and got all fired up with indignation, thereby overlooking your salient point. It only takes one to make a call. I suggest that all stand back to await the sensible answers to the problem.

    Well said Pyer.

There are too many people around who sit on thier backsides every day speculating and judging others.
This project has only just started, and during these phases, peices are being put together. If this incident had happened just before or after the building was complete, it would be a different issue entirely.
Some people just have nothing better to do…..

why? what difference would it make if they had access to the report or not? if it was down to negligence it’ll get sorted internally. Last thing we need is a Witch Hunt.

Oh…forgot…Guernsey. Of course. Yes by all means let’s have the report published then reviewed by idiots who haven’t a clue in structural engineering or anything to do with building (other than lego) in general and let’s just point fingers at the first name that crops up in the report all for the sake of ‘The Children’.

Dunno about the rest of you but I’m beginning to get a bit freaked by ‘The Children’…wouldn’t be suprised if this is all Village of the Damn-esq and ‘The Children’ have brainwashed their parents so they don’t have to go to school.

    Bloney ‘eck like ey la!

It’s simple – the school is clearly being built to modern standards.

…like the new Havelet slipway, the Beau Sejour roof, the Airport walkways… shall I go on?

Why stop at details of the incident, issue them all Hard Hats and Hi-Vis vests so they can monitor the project first hand!

Very strange is this affair about floors falling; in my opinion it’s not only the floor that is falling, but faith in the Builder.

If he insists and others with him insist putting the wraps on it; Who in their right mind would engage him to even build an outdoor doo.

It’s public money for goodness sake, our money, therefore we are the customer,

Would any of you allow anyone, for whom you pay good money get away with such acts.

People should meet up as they did at the half way, and demand satisfaction on the site.

(Maybe the armoured cars will come along)
