NEGOTIATIONS with the company selected to do the airport development project have identified more than £2m. in savings.

The States will be asked to approve Lagan Construction’s appointment in July and the final budget of £80.4m. for essential maintenance and improvements at the airport.

That amount will cover Lagan’s contract and separate contracts that include provision for soil treatment and pollution control.

Lagan had originally tendered for £57.5m. but after a process called value engineering, which sought to identify ways work could be done more effectively, the tender sum fell to £54.9m.

It will probably collapse just like the new school being built.

Oh good – that will make the 20 million overpend in 18 months time a little more bearable.

So Lagan can make savings of £2m, will this mean they will go over budget by £5m plus as with all other States projects.

This is an extremely important matter for our island as a whole and as such, I do hope fellow posters will put aside Mr G’s comment and contribute with according and proven good sense.

Quite easily. Especially if it’s being built on the marsh lands which we have plenty of up in the Forest. This type of work could’ve been about £50 million cheaper if we used a different firm.

    Martino-
SOP for new runways, apparently, is to build them on stilts made from 4×2 planks of wood.

    Very hi-tec.
