A GUERNSEY rugby star found guilty of assaulting two Jersey players after last year’s Siam Cup escaped a prison sentence yesterday.

James Regnard, described in numerous references to the court as a loyal, hardworking, family-orientated man, will instead serve 120 hours of community service.

The president of the Jersey Rugby Club criticised the sentence. ‘I don’t think it’s very severe for what he did. He actually came into a hotel room and smashed him completely,’ David Lapidus said.

‘I think he has been let off very lightly.’
