Sex offenders register stops short of Sarah’s Law

man and child. Illustration for child abuse articleA SEX offenders register would be operated on a ‘need to know’ basis, under proposals by the Home Department.

Updated changes to sexual offences legislation, which would be prepared if the States backs proposals at July’s meeting, call for offenders to notify authorities about their crimes and whereabouts.

But the information would be made public only in exceptional cases.

‘The decision to release information would rest with the police chief officer or an officer acting under delegated authority,’ Home minister Geoff Mahy said in the Billet d’Etat out today.

    To me I beleive this is for the best. I think that if names and address went public I think it would cause allot of problems for the police like taking the law into there own hands. I think as long as those who need to know i.e School head teachers if there was someone living very very close to there school or their boss in the work place if they do come in contact with children. I think this is the right way to go mayself.
