Gale-force winds join the list of Condor problems
Saturday 18th June 2011, 2:29PM BST.

Condor Rapide's gearbox has been repaired.
STRONG winds and continuing mechanical problems have led to ferry delays and cancellations this weekend.
Condor Rapide’s gearbox was fixed yesterday after two weeks of disruption. But the Vitesse is still running on just three of its four engines due to a problem with a main engine bearing.
A Condor spokesman said the Vitesse should be fixed by tomorrow. That, combined with the poor weather, has meant this afternoon’s Weymouth sailing has been cancelled to allow for the last repairs to be completed. Passengers have been transferred to the earlier Poole sailing. Due to this, all today’s Weymouth day-return passengers have seen their trips cancelled.
The Vitesse repair also meant yesterday’s 4.30pm sailing from Weymouth was cancelled and passengers were transferred to the 2.10pm sailing from Poole.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
They should be given a break. Continually battering them in the media is doing nobody any favours. Least of all ourselves.
I’d assume the little amount of profit is barely worth them carrying on. The constant bashing could turn out to be one kick too many.
Other operators that have tried have failed spectacularly. In comparison Condor has provided a very good service.
They have had problems recently. That’s no secret. They’re addressing these. What more can they do?
People & especially the media should be a little more understanding. We don’t see competitors lining up for our business.
We should be grateful for the dedication & commitment they have shown so far.
I have been satisfied with the level of service when I’ve used them in the past. It takes a little understanding & tolerance which seems to be getting thinner on the ground as time goes by it would seem.
The whingers need to look at the overall picture & see how right they have operated in the past instead of concentrating on the few times they have performed badly due to things that’re out of their control.
The problem that businesses face locally is the fact that the whingers tend to shout the loudest. The majority of other people are accepting & have better things to talk about.
I am happy with Condor. I bet the majority of other people are too.

Give condor a chance, they have had a run of bad luck and are doing what they can hopefully things will improve, mechanical failures they have experienced do happen and there is nothing that any one can do.

Well said Bill and Paul. Condor has had a huge amount of bad luck on the mechanical side this season but the company seems to be doing its best to put things right. At the same time, though, anyone who thinks we’re a right bunch of moaners on this island should see what they’re saying on the thisisjersey thread. They’ve got whingeing about Condor down to a fine art over there…

Paul, you would make a very good P.R person for Condor. The fact is, most of last year and again this year, the fast ferries have had problems, and this does not help our tourist industry. No, we don’t need all this negative publicity, but we wouldn,t have had it if Condor had treated these problems with more urgency. It seems to me that,it is only since Jerseys Economic Minister issued a statement suggesting that they may have to look at the licencing arrangment with Condor, that things have moved on at a faster pace. Our own C&E statement in the G.P a short while back was weak in comparison.I do use Condor to get to France, and must say, that the staff are very good.
