Water services hopes to unveil treatment plans by the autumn
Monday 20th June 2011, 1:00PM BST.
GUERNSEY Water will set out its case for the future of how the island deals with its sewage before the end of the year.
And its wastewater division has just submitted a planning application for what is a stepping-stone for moving to full treatment.
If planners and the States approve this it will put in new equipment to filter out things such as plastics from what is discharged into Belle Greve as well as improve storm water storage.
A firm it commissioned to carry out a study of the conditions around the current long outfall will begin work in the next month to six weeks.
‘Hopefully we will have a report in the autumn. For the first time we will have scientific information to take a judgement on what form of treatment is going to be needed to satisfy the environmental considerations,’ said Andrew Redhead, the director of water services (pictured).
