ATTEMPTS by a firm of local advocates to question why four officers with the backing of a Royal Court judge raided their chambers at 3am have raised the issue of who is in charge of Guernsey’s force.

Former police chief George Le Page earlier accepted court documents from AFR Advocates in their pursuit of a judicial review over the raid but new chief Patrick Rice (pictured) has indicated he may argue that it is his officers who have to accept any responsibility for their actions.

This emerged in a hearing before Lt-Bailiff Sir de Vic Carey, which has given fresh directions in the review proceedings brought by AFR against the police chief and Judge Russell Finch, who signed the original search warrant.

The incident challenged by AFR happened a year ago and the court questioned the reasons for that because the Lt-Bailiff indicated he wanted to be satisfied there had been no delay before allowing the case to go ahead.
