A QUIRKY interactive exhibition has been embraced by islanders offering it ideas for photos to take in Guernsey.

The Caravan Gallery – which travels all across the British Isles and has formed part of the Guernsey Photography Festival – is the brainchild of Chris Teasdale and Jan Williams.

They have taken numerous bizarre, unusual, special or unique photos to document different areas, creating exhibitions, tourist guides that are the antithesis to normal marketing and books and postcards.

Part of their work has also involved asking people to jot down places they would like to see photographed on maps they have drawn.

The aim is to capture the essence of a place and the strangeness of everyday life rather than the images that are normally promoted by tourism marketing.

Mr Teasdale said the pair had been busy speaking to islanders wanting to know about their work and the locals had contributed ideas to the hand-drawn map.

Many school children had come in and later brought their parents down to see it, they said.

‘We really love Guernsey,’ said Ms Williams. ‘It’s full of inspiration and people have so been so enthusiastic and forthcoming.’

Beach-wraps have been a particular fascination and one islander even gave them a miniature wrap for a teddy bear.

The pair also managed take some pictures of quirky or juxtaposed images across Guernsey, but not as many as they would have liked due to the exhibition’s popular demand.

The photographs include a jar of Marmite with a special silver top, a photo of ‘Miss Nob’, a sign saying ‘Sorry, we is closed’ and burnt cars.

The gallery is next off to Liverpool and then Belgium.

In future, the Guernsey map will also form part the exhibition.
