HEATHER WATSON’S quest for her first singles win at Wimbledon has been prolonged for another year.

The unfortunate Sarnian suffered an agonising three-set defeat yesterday at the hands of Mathilde Johansson in their delayed first-round match.

Watson looked in impressive form as she took the first set 6-2 on court three, but midway through the second she required a medical time-out after injuring her right elbow, which was then heavily strapped by the trainer.

With that, the momentum swung to her opponent, the world No. 70, who levelled the match 6-4.

The third set was hard-fought, but the French player capitalised on Watson’s hampered serve to win 6-4.
