States silent over UK fishermen deal
Friday 24th June 2011, 2:30PM BST.
THE Policy Council is refusing to divulge details of an out-of-court settlement made with UK fishermen in a lengthy dispute over fishing rights.
The case, brought by Interfish Wirons Ltd against the States of Guernsey, was due to be back in court in Guernsey on Thursday but the hearing was cancelled.
Advocate Gordon Dawes, who represents the plaintiff, confirmed yesterday that the case had been settled out of court, but said the details were confidential.
The council would not say yesterday what the settlement was, whether it was financial and, if so, if the figure would be published in the States accounts. It is not known what legal costs might fall to the taxpayer.

The Guernsey public have a right to see what they’ve paid for the blunder of letting this situation get this far.

How much?
As a taxpayer i have the right to know !

Amazing isn’t it?
They go to Church on Sundays, and vow to be honest in all their dealings.
They even tell the people that it is an open form of Governing, nothing behind closed doors.
They not only are misfits, traitors to our Island but liars as well.
The sooner they go the better.
This takes back to that part of our history when our fishermen had to go as far as Newfoundland to earn a living, the other lot manipulated our waters.
Where is EU in all this.
‘There is supposed to be fair play.
The other lot scream out about justice, fight for it–but practice it.. goodness me NO WAY
that shows weakness.
I hope that they get a return as they have given our fisher folk.
I Used to like the Tory party–
Today I hope they get kicked out Pronto. they think only for temselves.,
Cameron is all talk, Blow the rest.

Well, well, well the poor old hard working tax-payer does it again by subsidising another blunder from those in higher ranks.
Bailiwick Fishing Licensing Legislation has been a total, utter farce since inception providing zero protection for local fisherman and now clearly zero protection for the ‘left in the dark’ tax-payer whose hard earned contributions will be accounted for on a balance sheet and hidden away from them.
Will this be the last example of this ? one must have serious doubts, how on this earth can Civil Servants manage industries like fishing having no knowledge of the industry whatsoever without making serious numerable blunders – they can’t.
Until the present infra-structure of the Department running this industry is replaced with one of knowledge, communication levels with the industry which surpass the current pre-school standard and the ability to acknowledge irregularities, failures of protection for those who have invested in licences and business assets on the understanding they were basing such an investment on a 12 mile limit and also on a level-playing field then the islands tax-payers themselves have little security or protection from potential repeat performances.
A hard working tax-paying community – a hard working fishing industry all in the same boat, excuse the pun, hidden away from the facts.

I presume that when a question is asked in the Assembly it must be answered truthfully
I look forward to someone asking the relevant questions as soon as possible

When one considers the loss of earnings & damages of all those that have been convicted for fishing inside our illegally restricted waters this could amount to many millions.
The public have every right to know the full facts. Those accountable shouldn’t be allowed to hide out of embarrassment if this standard or bad practice is not going to be repeated in future.
Where is all this openness & transparency the CM keeps banging on & on & on about?

This must be that last straw.
These Zombies controlled by Whitehall haven’t an ounce of decency in their bodies.
30 pieces of silver once again.
It and many other items is so disgusting.
However people do as they wish.
‘But I no longer feel bound to honour any connection with England,
I will no longer honour the Crown, or it’s subjects.
Dependency? that must be the biggest joke ever placed on a people.
Many Islanders suffered for their belief in England. We believed in you, yet England kicked us once again,
‘Shame on you England–
You only do it because we are smaller that you, you wouldn’t have the Guts to take on others.
You allow these finance affairs and knowingly let them rob the State of England for taxes.
A few letters to the EU offices might explain some grievances.
Those ministers in Guernsey who allowed this to go forward should be taken to court as Traitors, I hope people will ridicule them for ever and a day,
Shakespeare had it right when he wrote.
That England, wont to conquer others;
Hath made a shameful conquest of itself.
But others are noticing it, THEIR GREAT BELIEF IN “SPECIAL friendship with the USA has a little crack in the surface, they and UN agree with Argentina over the Falklands
Cameron as usual min his blustering manner says “NEVER”
We’ll see.
You can keep your Union flag; I’ll prefer the Tricolour.

Red Herring!
What I find particularly obnoxious amongst many failings is the following.
The PM Cameron will question the Chinese PM about HUMAn RIGHTS,
Now to me that sounds like. Never mind what I do, but you mustn’t do it.
I daresay the Chinese PM will smile and say nothing.
I have always thought Conservative, as a ruling bgody; No longer, they only think of themselves.
I Think this affair of our fishing should be told to ‘FACEBOOK and Twitter”
I already write to Strasbourg about the dirty tricks by these no good politicians of Guernsey.
I hope they; Guernsey politicians, will in the near future suffer some disaster, and hope it will constantly repeat itself.
They are not fit to Govern and should be removed, and kicked off our Island.
These lapdogs of a country gone mad, read what is going on in St Johns district of London.
The Rich want it all.
I hope the whole country go on strike, and wipe this conservative lot out for good.
I don’t like labour, but I detest this latest lot of Conservative. SELFISH ARROGANT (put your own words here.)

I say again simply.
As a taxpaying citizen of Guernsey it is my right to know how much they paid the trawling company.
They are a disgrace destroying the environment with their factory ships smashing up the sea bed.
Does anyone know how big the pairs trawlers this company owns are…they are enormous and need to catch 100′s of tons of fish to make a profit. They also throw back 3/4 of their catch back dead !!! They throw back the undersiz ones. For example if a 1lb bass is too small to land at market, they will throw back 3 dead (at the bare minimum) for every large one they keep
To bring the dolphin lovers out to join in i would like to say that these trawlers catch many many dolphns and porpoise each year ! The trawlermen stab them in the swim bladder so they sink to the bottom and rot. This goes on every day, but because they dont wash up on shore people don’t know !!!

Dolphins (or any cetaceans for that matter as far as im aware) don’t have swim bladders.

Latest from the fisherman’s cafe
Interfish were looking for 6.5 million but settled for 4.5 million ( so that will show up in the books as a SAVING of 2million ?? )
Meanwhile the French and the Spanish are preparing even bigger claims {

@gwen
thanks for the biology lesson, but i think u missed the point of my post…
It must be the lungs they puncture, or whatever organ it is that regulates there buoyancy. Dolphins don’t sink.
@ Gwen
They do indeed have swim bladders ! I have just checked on a marine biological site…now who’s the nerd ! All cetaceans have swim bladders, just some have different names for the organ itself. I did wonder how they would regulate depth as it’s not done by air consumption and release
