‘PC Sexy’ sacked
Tuesday 28th June 2011, 2:55PM BST.
A POLICE officer dubbed ‘PC Sexy’ has been sacked.
Richard Vahey (pictured) was dismissed yesterday after a disciplinary hearing, at which he admitted a charge relating to his conduct.
The community officer admitted during court proceedings to sending sexual messages to an unnamed 20-year-old single mother via text and Facebook and touching her breast on one occasion during a visit to her home while on duty.
PC Vahey – nicknamed ‘PC Sexy’ by the woman and her friend – was cleared of indecent assault.
Guernsey Police issued a short statement today announcing the dismissal.

Last time I checked he had a girlfriend… maybe not anymore?

Poor Richard, I know this man and he’s really really nice and no he didnt crack on to me or touch me up! he’s a very nice and kind man! please do not judge!!!!!!
I don’t really see the problem here apart from maybe wasting police time.
He may be a nice man but it’s a shame he didn’t bring that side of him to his policing “duties”. I have first hand very unpleasant experience of this. He’s got no less than he deserves.
What a crying shame, Richard is a cracking bloke and was well respected.
Reading between the lines, it occurs to me that to refer to him as PC Sexy constitutes a not altogther lack of interest or agreement to his advances by the person concerned, she did give him her mobile number and Facebook acceptance – takes two to tango.
i do not know the man, but seems like he is a good policeman, and the force over here could do with keeping what few good ones they have!
The last one reinstated after a fracas arresting a woman, this one sacked for a boob.

I had the pleasure of working with Richard last summer and found him very easy going and his possible friendliness and banter has obviously got him into trouble, but he was an excellent community policeman, liked by both adults and young people. By the sounds of it, the sexual innuendos were not just one sided. I think its a shame that he got sacked as not so long ago a policeman was up for assaulting a 60 year old woman and got re-instated and to me that is worse. Yes, Richard was wrong and he knows it and now must feel decidedly stupid, but he could have been left to do desk duty as a punishment and then go out supervised for a while rather than just dismissed.
Here we go a witch hunt. I feel sad for this guy as he was good at his job. Treated everybody on the same level and didn’t pretend to be any different from them. Sad thing is he is not the only one that has done this there are a few others in the force that have done this and worse. But their faces fit and they get to keep their jobs.
Silly Billy springs to mind, he was a policeman on duty he should have known better.
I have to agree with Brodie in saying was sacking richard the only option for the force?
I know richard will be devastated by this decision, though not condoning his actions in any way surely there are internal punishments such as demotion/supervision periods.
As Brodie said the force need good community officers such as Richard and im sure he will be missed by public and police alike.
bubble
Are you reading the same posts as me? i haven`t read anything yet that suggests a witch hunt.
You are right though about others (i know of one) doing this.
He may be a nice bloke, even good at his job, but he was at this ladies house when we were paying him to be out policing the community. If he had been off duty, then it would not have been misconduct. Bubble if you know of others, you should report them as it is our taxes they are wasting.
I’ve known Richard since he worked for C.A.R. in the Pollet. Really nice guy, very helpful and seemed to be the sort of person who would make a good policeman.
Shame it ended up this way but I feel it was more the bad press for the local force and the national coverage in papers like The Sun that didn’t aid his hopes of retaining his job.
at the end of the day he was being paid to do a job , he chose to over step the mark ,he as a police officer knew right from wrong ,and whats exspected of him whilst on duty .
so at the end of the day he brought it on him self so no more poor richard please .
here here Linny!

Poor Richard, he is a top bloke and a really good community police officer, he was well respected within the area. Its such a shame that he lost his job over a personal issue that got out of hand, yes he was at work, but he is not the first and wont be the last to get distracted whilst on shift!
Personally the police dont have a massive line around the block of people wishing to be coppers so maybe they should have kept the good ones?! and I think people are forgetting the female that is also involved, what is she? the virgin Mary?!
Either way, I think its crazy that they let the Copper that assaulted an older lady to keep his job, yet Richard touches a boob and he’s sacked!!! shocking really!!!
He behaved wrongly and used his police position inappropriately and has paid the price for his indiscretions. His choice.
Don’t know the guy but must say how typical for the old “one rule for us…and one for the rest of you” to be applied. Sounds like he is human and made a stupid mistake !
I suppose the reason Police Officers deserve our respect is because of the sacrifices they have to make, like Fire Personnel, Nurses etc.
Going around on duty and making advances at girls nearly half your age is not on when you are being paid by the tax payer (us).
That does not deserve respect and lowers the standards, so there was no option but to show PC Vahey the door.

If I remember correctly the copper who kept his job after ‘assaulting’ an older lady was convicted for the ‘technical assault’ of handcuffing her without first telling her that he was arresting her on suspicion of drink driving
No mention of that in today’s Editor’s column of course
Report abuse
Sorry, but i am not sure what this bloke has done to deserve dismissal? It is very poor reporting from the paper, as it doesn’t make clear what he has done.
it states he was cleared of indecent assault.
And it states that he “admitted during court proceedings to sending sexual messages to an unnamed 20-year-old single mother via text and Facebook” – which when i read it I can find nothing wrong with.
Therefore, I assume he has been dismissed for touching her breast while on duty? If this is the case, then surely the newspaper should report that, instead of insinuating it is for something else??
Think it was more six of one & half a dozen of the other. Wasnt very good reporting by the Press either with their sensasialism.
I think the issue here stems from if the relationship between him and this girl broke down for whatever reason.
The fact that a member of the force felt up a member of the public whilst on duty is a massive issue if the woman suddenly starts claiming sexual harrasment.
The police have had to cover their own backs, shame for the bloke, but we can blame the litigation that we oh so love to peddle nowadays.
But lets not prentend this is even a remotely similar case to the (alledged) assault, its not, and its a fantasticically spurious argument to claim that it is.
Yes you can say she is involved but he used his position as a copper to go to her home 5 times and we dont know what he said to her whilst there , yes there are two sides to every story and both sides will have its supporters.
And yes he was cleared of indecent assualt BUT HE ADMITTED sending her lewd txts.

Bubble: You dont know how right you are!

I have known Richard since 2003 and I say its about time he has been shown to the public in his true colours
I am very relieved he has been sacked and hope the lady he assualted and harassed will get over what he did to her.
I for one was put through alot by this man and hearing news of his suspension and consequential sacking from the force makes me happy…..i always told him his actions would catch up with him one day.

I am also relived this guy has been shown up for his true coours and finally sacked ,he put me through a lot and i just wish i could say on here what he did to me ….. and i also reported him ..
Was made to feel i was a nuisance .

This guy was still contacting my gf as late as last week despite her asking him to stop .
I am glad he got sacked he deserves and it seems as though he has been doing this for sometime , wonder why his gf? wife stays with him.

It seems strange that while reading through the whole of these posts there have been mixed emotions about this policemans sacking but the last 3 appear to be very similar and, dare i say it, they appear as tho they have been deliberately “planted” merely to cause more trouble. Do last laugh, carol and Antony know each other? and could there be an ulterior motive here…. Just sayin…. (Odd that the comments come straight after one another unlike other replies to other posts which usually have one or 2 comments between).

Carol and Anthony
Carol- Sorry Richard put you through a similiar experience and made you feel bad…it was not your fault
Anthony – Once upon a time I am sad to say his girlfriend and I did not put up with his behaviour and I did report my concerns to the police standards dept.
I am just so glad that he has been found out and sacked.
Now he has messed up his life, career and future on the island and I hope he learns from this he is not god’s gift like he deludley thought he was.
Its really sad to read the posts from Last Laugh, Carol & Anthony.
Especially when so many people are ready to give the guy a pardon, and a pat on the back just because he is “likeable”. Also some even hint that it was the young ladies fault. Its not good enough.
What kind of young women would a community officer visit? I always assumed it was the more vunerable ones that should have men like Richard kept away from them.
