Wednesday 29th June 2011, 2:29PM BST.

Director of water services Andrew Redhead put forward the suggestion during a Chamber of Commerce lunch. He quickly had support from Guernsey Electricity’s managing director Alan Bates, who was in the audience and called for the idea to be given serious consideration.

Mr Redhead (pictured) said combining the companies would reduce costs and make them more efficient.

‘It all depends on the States members, but it has potential,’ he said.

‘I can see very little reason why it wouldn’t work.’
