24/7 Petcare owner calls in police over ‘vendetta’

POLICE have confirmed that officers issued a warning to an individual who had been harassing 24/7 Petcare owner Jessica Valpied.
Miss Valpied (pictured) told the Guernsey Press about a series of recent ‘vindictive’ actions against her by people she believes would like to see her go out of business.
She claimed someone, or different people, had let her horses out in the middle of the night, let a dog into her chicken pen, watched the animal kill the birds and let her goats loose.
The kennel owner also reported the actions of one individual to police after allegations were made against her on social networking site Facebook.

Someone made alegations about her? I bet the reason she didnt mention what these alegations are is because they are all true and have been reported in the press.
I mean, alledgedly she let some dogs in her care fight to the death, stumbled across the carcass got some kids to bury in a field where the police train their dogs. Then lied to the police animal charities and media that it ran away and made the kids lie too…..

also she left a dog in her care unattended on the grooming table with the dogs collar and lead still on, and the dog jumped off and got strangled and died, i was surprised that she didn’t go out of business at the time!, i wouldn’t take my dog to 24/7 pet care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

these are totally new cases. not anything to do with the buried dog, her horse getting loose a few years ago or the dog that to this day is still classed as missing!!
The thing is, not many people are going to believe her. Is this really a case of someone else commiting awful animal welfare acts, or is it her making mistakes AGAIN?
Also, why why why?!? Is she re-branding herself as Four Paws Country Pet Hotel? this is Guernsey Love, stop trying to save your bad reputation!

In fairness to her, Buried dog, those instances were proved true and she was found guilty, I believe.

This is Guernsey so the brand name change won’t hide anything. Everyone will know Miss Valpied is behind this new venture, they will also know her history.
This spite being thrown at her is actually quite pointless. Simply leave it to basic consumer economics:
Miss Valpied will require clients to make her business viable; People have the choice whether to use her services or not; if people don’t use her business, it will eventually fold.
If that happens so be it – but in my opinion she’s every right to give it a go and prove she’s learned her lesson and can deliver a good service. If you don’t want to take that risk, fine – don’t use her business – but don’t go around haranguing her just because you feel that way.

What I cant understand is why she is being given the time of day both by the police and by the media.
Her animals escaping are a regular occurace up here. Always getting out and getting in gardens and in the way of traffic! She is a Jonah as far as animal lives are concerned, it must feel like russian roulette when owners leave their animals with her. Its not just one or two little things, there are countless big things that have happened but yet again, idiots ask for everyone to give her a break so she can go on and yet again make more mistakes.
Like that pet care company was quoted as saying in the press a few months ago, she would not be able to trade any more in the UK and this atest incident is proof why!

She obviously didn’t want to come forward with allegations of bullying and harrassment earlier because of the negative and spiteful comments by all the “witch hunters” she would have recieved like some are giving now! For goodness sake leave the girl alone she’s not the only one to have made serious mistakes in her job and judging by what she is putting into her new project she hopefully has learnt from the past and wants to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. Best of luck to her i say and while understand the anger and upset at the owners who’s dogs died in her care it’s not for those who have never had any dealings with her to slander her business with damaging fictional tales and typical Guernsey hearsay. If she was that bad she would have been stopped being allowed to care for animals by now. The ones who let her horses loose are the ones who don’t give a dam because if they loved animals as much as Jessica they would never have done such a vindictive, stupid and dangerous thing. Not only did these morons put the horses lives at risk but also some poor unsuspecting driver who could have been killed, (i have seen first hand a bolting horse get hit by a car years ago. Its front legs went through the windshield as it reared .. The outcome was not pretty and, sad to say, fateful). I suppose they were hoping for this so Jessica would once again have been in the limelight and all at the expense of innocent animals!

this is undoubetdly a cowardly witch-hunt against miss valpied, by people who are lacking blacked-out prison vans that willingly draw up outside the courts, containing some god-awful offender, to spit at and generally be hysterical towards.
having said that, it may be that, although her heart is in the right place, her overall management ability should prompt miss v to consider calling her involvement in the animal care business a day?

At the end of the day any responsible pet owner can make up thier own mind on where to kennel their pets.
As a dog owneer I would certainly not put my dog anywhere where there is a higher risk than normnal that she would be killed.
This sort of business is a hard one to run, but if you do things properly there should be no mistakes.
I hate to see people who work hard and do things well go down the pan. But someone who has made so many mistakes time and time again should really hold their hands up and quit.

Slight Conundrum
Surely anyone who feels strongly enough about JV and her “business” to take physical action must be an animal lover right?
As surely her previous actions would not cause enough animosity and hatred in someone who wasnt an animal lover?
So in that respect, are we expected to beleive than an animal loving anti- 24/7 activist, would allow their dog to kill chickens and WATCH whilst the carnage happened? Would an animal lover let horse and goats loose, knowing how dangerous it is for the safety of these animals for them to be loose.
Cant see it frankly.
Anyhoo her horses have a history of escaping, so presumably the goats have picked up the habit too!!

Freinds of ours had a dog & he was a bit too ‘playful’ for their new baby – he besically had ‘dog ADHD’ or something!! & was a danger to the baby – they tried to find a home for him but couldnt so they checked him in to 24/7 pet care a couple of times (without actually going away!!) but unfortunately for them he came back on all 3 occasions!!
It all turned out ok in the end as they eventually found a home for him – but the moral of the story is….
I know someone who put their dog in her care & it made it out alive! I am available for interviews or after dinner speaking should anyone want to book me…

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying what has happened in the past is right, but that’s just it, it is in the past. Everyone knows the reputation now and if you don’t like it you won’t go there and she won’t have a business to run. I thought we were a society though that could and would be able to forgive people. What would you do if with all the bad press, the allegations, threats etc drove her to have a breakdown or even worse suicide?????
Are we as Guernsey people that callous, that cold that we just don’t care about people anymore? There are a lot of people now that just come on here and are as vicious with their words and their threats as the people themselves.
Maybe before you write/comment on these types of posts, you should think how you would be feeling if it were the other way round.

I would never, ever leave any of our pets in her care. When people have asked for my advice on where to leave their pets, or what I think of 24/7 petcare, I have always strongly advised against using 24/7 petcare at all costs.

Miss Valpied has recently invested 1/2 a mill in new facilities, and questioned why she would do that if she ‘didn’t love animals’…?
I am guessing that the reason that Miss Valpied had 1/2 a mill to spend in the first place is because the services she provides are very LUCRATIVE, and that as a business (not a charity), she is also in it to make money, an equal incentive, I am sure.
A dog died in her care, it was a ‘mistake’, certainly, but for goodness sake, she didn’t own up to it – she hid the body!! Then there was the dog that died whilst being groomed by a member of her staff, and now we have ‘guinea-pig-gate’ where she’s saying no one can prove it was dogs in her care that did it, demanded that the owner showed her the body as proof (sensitively done, Miss V) then offered the owner a ‘replacement’ for their child’s beloved – and apparently deceased – pet (animals evidentially just being easily replaceable ‘things’)
There have been enough contradictions, lack of moral backbone and total lack of ability to take responsibility in her animal scandals to make me believe that she is NOT experienced or mature enough to be in a position of such trust, I would NEVER leave an animal in her care, and I genuinely fail to understand why people are still using her and keeping her in business.
– for the record, taking out any sort of vendetta against by abusing her animals is vile, and I don’t condone animal abuse in any way shape or form.

I can’t understand why so called animal lovers are so willing to hand their ‘beloved’ pets over to complete strangers just so they can go away on long holidays or be at work all day and have a dog walker pop in for barely 1/2 hour to run it round the block.
If you can’t look after your own animals, don’t have them!

I don’t condone any form of vendetta or any action that is outside the law. However, supporters of JV must understand why the majority of feeling directed towards her is negative. Everyone makes mistakes, but most own up to them and do not blatantly lie to save their name and that of their business. It is this aspect that has led to people not trusting this individual or her businesses. As for moving on with a new venture, many people believe she should not be allowed to continue to run any pet-related business and in other jurisdictions where animal welfare is taken more seriously than it is in Guernsey it is unlikely that someone like JV would be permitted to stay in business.

My dogs just stayed with Jessica. Teddy and Timmy didnt want to come home with me, they wanted to stay with her.
She great at her job and loves the animals.

Speaking as a ‘strict vegetarian’ I personally think she has sunk her chances of making it in this buisness, or atleast I like to hope so. All we need now is some one who gives a damn about animal welfare to open up a rival company and wipe her out. Screwing up one to many times is not acceptable in working with animals. Perhaps she should try an office job next? That takes slightly less concerntration?

If a playschool were to have as much trouble with accidents and kiddies escaping no one would use it. It says as much about the clientel that continue to use such an accident prone and careless company. Iv heard of a few people that rang up enquiring about the jobs advertised but as soon as they heard it is 24/7 they lost interest. They didnt want to be the next person to take the blame for the next accident and have their picture and name printed in the press for doing tasks they werent trained or capable of.

Give her a chance I hear them saying, This woman has had about 10 chances in the last two years.Each time she has blown them with her “that’ll do attitude”. These welfare laws are long overdue and it is high time businesses such as this were regulated.
And as for a vendetta, this is being blown out of all preportion by Miss V in the hope of a little more public sympathy. I have seen the the horse in its badly fenced, litter strewn paddock on a regular basis, without access to a drink. I reckon its possible it was chased through the fence by the small pony constantly harrassing it!

Rus, there have been two playschools in recent years that have had problems with their staff losing toddlers out into the road. Both cases were publicised, and yet both playshools are still running.
People still vote for politicians who have completely ignored their own campaign promises. It happens.
People will still take their dogs to this girl, because she is close/cheap/related/a smooth talker * insert your reason here.
To change direction slightly, can someone explain exactly which section of the proposed new animal welfare law could be applied here?

Jessica, ignore all the bad press. So you’ve made mistakes, so have i. But alot of these negative commentors have never made mistakes they are purfect. The trouble with a lot of these Guerns is that once you have been in the papers for doing something wrong you are never allowed to forget it.Thank heavens they are not God as we would all go to hell. They are just all so unforgiving. Guuerns you need to lighten up and be a little more forgiving, at least she is trying.

Yes Dave H but PEOPLE HAVE made mistakes and killed other PEOPLE be it stabbing, kicking them to death, running them down or causing countless other accidents. Yet society tends to be more accepting and forgiving towards these “killers”. Yes some are extremely remorseful for their actions but others openly brag and use it as a “don’t mess with me or else” kind of badge, but you don’t hear them being slated half as much!
From what i can gather, Jessica is putting a lot of hard work and money into her new project and is TRYING to atone for her past mistakes and trying to get on and make a living in what she obviously loves but she is going to need a strong back to take all the malicious talk and “fairy stories” that someone appears to have been telling “Flower”, Really flower?? “about 10″ mistakes? Maybe you would like to list them with evidence. Also it didn’t go un-noticed that “Meeshka”, appeared to deliberately name drop Jessicas new venture purely to stir up more juice!
There are others walking around freely, (and some that we have to PAY for because they can’t or won’t get a job), who have done much worse things than Jessica has and have “got away with it” We should be saving these scathing remarks and nasty words for people who really deserve it. At least Jessica is making a huge effort to turn her life around and learn from the past. Leave your remarks for the real drop outs and lowlifes of society and stop hindering those who have enough guts and determination to improve their life, and atone for their errors!

i am new to Gsy…can anyone reccommend somewhere for my animals to go instead of this kennels? after all i have read about this girl i am worried about leaving my pets in her care. i have not seen anyother kennels advertised so i assume people tend u use petsitters?

The thing that stands out to me about this story is the fact that, by her own admission, Jessica Valpied was given two dogs to look after for ‘just an hour’ and was unable to stop them escaping.
I’m amazed that nobody has picked up on this. Many dogs are not road smart, so this could easily have resulted in yet another death of a dog.
The other thing that strikes me is that she has admitted that the dogs escaped and were on the estate where the Guinea Pig was killed, yet has refused to take responsibility for the death. It seems to follow the same pattern of denial as the past issues.
The only dealing that I have had with 24/7 was a few years ago when we put our puppy in for a night shortly before the first dog died.
When we went to collect him the next day there wasn’t a single person on-site. What alarmed me was that there were 6 or 7 dogs together in an outdoor pen totally unsupervised.
We had to take our puppy from his pen ourselves. It was obvious that the pen hadn’t been cleaned at all, resulting in him being in a compete mess.
I have to say that I don’t understand how anybody could give her responsibility for looking after their pets when she still seems unable to supervise them and keep them safely contained.

Yeah, I can just imagine telling someone, “oh what a day iv had! I managed to kill someone accidentally!” “oh poor you, how did this accident happen?” “well it all started when my knife thrust itself in to their chest then when they fell to the floor in agony my foot reatedly kicked them in the head!” ” Oh you silly accidental person you!”
Yes these dogs were in her care for only one hour and managed to cross a main road without getting run over, unlike her own horse. One of the dogs was a customers and its name is Barney. She contradicts herself in the radio & press interviews.

I did work for Jessica about 2 years ago, I had to leave as i started a new college course at FE.
Jessica does love all types of animals, very much and will go out her way to help her customers.

I’m not ‘picking on’ ‘poor Jessica’. She’s in business, for god’s sake, to make MONEY, this isn’t a charity she’s running!!
I’m not questioning whether she ‘loves’ animals or not, or whether she is ‘well intentioned’ (the road to hell being paved with many), what I am saying is that her inability to be honest, take responsibility for her repeated and sometimes FATAL mistakes and actually LEARN from them does not instill any confidence to me as a pet owner, and I cannot understand anyone still using her services.
As George says, everyone appears to be blissfully ignoring the fact she admits she let these two dogs escape her care but then denies everything else. What if the dogs had been hit and killed on the road? Perhaps caused an accident in which someone you know was seriously injured? Maybe that’ll happen next time, and we’ll see ‘poor Jessica’ bleating in the media about how it wasn’t her fault. Again.
All this ‘defense of the perpetrator and making them the victim’ (when someone dares criticise their actions) cr*p, whilst glossing over the plight of the real victims (i.e. the pets that have died, and their poor owners) is sadly symptomatic of the bizarre society we live in, and I simply do not agree with it.

All I can say is its up to the owners where they put their animals.
Like many people I WILL NOT put my animal in her care. However many will.
At the end of the day we can all make up our own minds.
At the end of the day would you let your Granny go into an old folks home or child into a playgroup with history of death and escaping?!?

this just makes me sick.if this was a school and children were so called going missing getting hung in p.e by the ropes etc the police ,childens broad would be thier before you new it.Come on GSPCA and the police get your finger out do somthing your the only ones that can help the animals.Get the law changed before any more animals suffer or die or what is the point of having GSPCA in guernsey if this is the message your putting out that anybody can kill as many animals as they like and nothing is done.Then is a sick island we live in.Also if this is the case y are we giving money to the GSPCA to help animals and to STOP this sort of thing?

The GSPCA is only a charity over here. When you watch the animal welfare programmes you will see they go to cases of animal cruellty with police to enforce their actions. We have no animal welfare laws so legally the is nothing the GSPCA can do over here. You would think after the national pet sitters association were quoted in the press as saying she would be closed down in the UK that no one would want to use her services again.
As for a user changing their name on here. The user still is bemused by this storys continued cliental. Much like 24/7 has changed their name but will still carry on being irresponsible with animals lives.

As for K “Jessica will go out of her way to help customers” How did she help the Van Den Bosch family?
Why does the press only print her version of events and not the truth from the people who were involved with the dogs on the estate? First she says they were no where near her house then she admits that they were on the estate!
Like others I am amazed that after one incident that anyone would trust her enough to leave them their pets. Let alone to be able to relax while on holiday knowing where they are.
