Smoke was seen billowing across the north of the island yesterday after a bonfire spread to these two vans at a property in Epinelle Road, St Sampson’s. (Picture by Peter Frankland, 1152748)

A BONFIRE that spread to two vans and a mass of undergrowth saw the Fire and Rescue Service rush to a property in St Sampson’s yesterday afternoon.

Billowing smoke could be seen across the north of the island as neighbours stood in the street wondering what was happening.

The out-of-control bonfire was at the back of a home in Epinelle Road, on land attached to a vinery.

Crew commander Gary Van der Linden said officers received the call at 3.58pm and attended with one appliance.
