Ronez looks to Chouet
Thursday 30th June 2011, 2:30PM BST.
RONEZ expects Les Vardes Quarry to last until 2028.
The quarrying and building materials giant has recently celebrated 50 years of operating in the island, but is already looking towards the future and its options once the life of Les Vardes comes to an end.
Ronez is the sole producer of asphalt, ready mixed concrete and concrete blocks for the construction industry in Guernsey.
‘We are definitely thinking about our options now,’ said director and general manager Peter de Garis (pictured).

‘We are definitely thinking about our options now,’
I wouldn’t bother thinking for too long, here’s what will happen:-
States will ignore rubbish problem for a few more years then Ronez will offer their great big hole in the ground as a swap for the extra land they need at Chouet plus planning permission to use it as a quarry.
Guernsey gets to continue consuming as much as possible without thinking about the consequences and burying the resulting rubbish. Ronez get to dig up one of the most beautiful parts of Guernsey and make ££’s selling our own rocks back to us.
Pretty simple.

I can remember this when brothers Antonio and Rodrico de Ronmanez gave up trying to grow their Potatoes in the stoney fields which later became the Quarry.
