Saturday 2nd July 2011, 2:29PM BST.

Steve HemeryTHE death of a man who was fatally injured when he fell from a Town roof was an accident, an inquest concluded yesterday.

Steve Hemery, 41, died at The Princess Elizabeth Hospital at 10.40pm on Thursday 27 January this year.

Inspector Richard Medhurst told the inquest how Mr Hemery (pictured) had been drinking with friends in a Town pub from about 5pm to 9pm that day.

After leaving the pub they went to a friend’s flat above Costa Coffee in the Commercial Arcade.

At the top of the building there is a door that leads onto a small flat roof, overlooking Church Square. There is a parapet around the roof that is 320mm-high but no other protection.

The occupant of the flat uses the area for smoking and the distance to the ground is 13 metres. Somehow, Mr Hemery fell from the roof and landed in Church Square.
