FREE pre-school education for three- and four-year-olds will have to wait as Education is unable to fund the £1.6m. annual cost to deliver it.

However, the department has said it would present interim proposals to the States before the end of this political term.

The issue was part of Education minister Carol Steere’s election manifesto in 2008. She said Guernsey was behind the times with its current approach.

She was disappointed that she had not managed to bring in free pre-schools during the four years of this States.

The children need play school ..we do have a few for those who cannot afford the costs .these are well looked after.
How much more is education going to spend
teach mums how to look after their children would be a much better way to spend tax payers money
there are a lot of parents out there who need help and many who have not got a clue what their responsibility is .

Rep Steere – this is deplorable. I know that many voters put you in on the strength of this vital issue, which was so prominent in your manifesto.

To say that interim proposals may be aired prior to the end of this poitical term is blantant engineering for another chance at it. Suggest you put your gawkie high heeled stars and stripes stilettos back on and keep walking.

Prioritise. How about allocating funds from admin/management costs of the unnecessary uniform changes?

Stiletto – I’m afraid if people voted for Deputy Steere thinking she could just wave a magic wand and bring in free pre-schooling, they have fundamentally misunderstood the way the States runs.

OK Stiletto, you are disappointed that Deputy Steere has been unable to bring free pre school education to the fore, and so am I, but I do not think you have to be so personal in your last paragraph.

Lets see you put your hand in the ring at the next election and see what you can come up with,it may not be as easy as we all think.
