GUERNSEY FC are off and running after an extraordinary 6-5 defeat to AFC Wimbledon in the club’s inaugural friendly match at Foote’s Lane.

After taking an early lead through a stunning Ryan-Zico Black free-kick, Guernsey fell 3-1 behind at half-time thanks to goals from Jake Rose, Jerson dos Santos and Zachery Richards.

Ross Allen’s goal for Guernsey was sandwiched by dos Santos and Brendan Kiernan’s efforts for the visitors, giving Wimbledon a 5-2 lead.

Guernsey centre-backs Sam Cochrane and Tom Strawbridge both bundled in to pull it back to 5-4, before Cherno Mendy once again gave Wimbledon a two-goal cushion.

But it was Allen who rounded off proceedings, superbly slamming past Wimbledon keeper Jack Turner to round off the 11-goal thriller.

Does anyone know if either Tony Vance or Colin Fallaise have any FA recognised coaching qualifications?

Brilliant inaugural game from Guernsey FC last night. I’m sure the team will be disappointed not to have won, but they showed great teamwork, guts and some magical moments of crowd pleasing football.

It was, for me and my family, a great night out, and exciting to be supporting Guernsey FC on this journey. Well done Mr Mark Le Tiss, Mr Dewsnip et al.
