DAVID NICOLLE birdied three of the first six holes on the way to winning the Royal Guernsey Golf Club’s Centenary Trophy.

The former island star did the scratch and handicap double, although he elected to take the main prize off handicap and allowed Nigel Vaudin to take home the scratch prize for his 69.

After a 3-3 start, Nicolle (pictured) picked up his third birdie of the day at the par five sixth and was out in just 32 shots.

His only blip came at the 15th which he bogeyed, but he grabbed that shot back with a three up 17 and a par at the last secured him a net 64 and a two-stroke win over three on 66: Barry Blondel, Gary Taylor and Nigel de la Rue.

Blondel took second prize by virtue of his net 31 inward half.

Newly-crowned Noel Shield winners Luke Blondel and James Hamon continued maintained their form, Blondel lifting the junior prize on countback with a net 69, gross 75.

The performance sees him drop his handicap to 6.0, while Hamon is inching ever-nearer to a two handicap after his 73 gross.
