A ST SAMPSON’S deputy has argued that a new access junction for a data park will make Route Militaire even more dangerous.
Father of the House Ivan Rihoy said he supported the St Sampson’s constables and douzaine in refusing to issue Guernsey Data Park Ltd with a bornement – a permit to carry out development within nine metres of the road.
‘Route Militaire is a death trap as it has hardly any pavements and you have to take your life in your hands,’ he said.
Deputy Rihoy said he had formally objected to the planners about the proposal in 2007 and people who lived in the area had contacted him with similar concerns.

The road is not dangerous – it is how people drive on it that is.

Once again this is to the detriment of small business (outside of finance) being penalised. This latest nail in the coffin of small business when particularly small evolving companies are trying to find a location for premises and a suitable site from which to develop. One ‘crusty ‘’out of touch’ ‘political’ dinosaur cannot surely derail this further? – then again.
Taxi for the ‘Father of the House’ (which is laughable frankly….)

The stable door is off its hinges. Planning granted permission for all this in May. Were any objections lodged at the proper time? The constables should be working on more important things like introducing direct debit instalments to spread the cost of the rates instead of having to stump up £100s in one go. St Sampsons ratepayers are going to need that next year when the bill for this legal folly is recharged to the parish.
Refer to planning application refs FULL/2011/0898 , RES/2011/0873 and FULL/2011/0874, in particular FULL/2011/0874, which has the Decision status “FGNT – NOTIFICATION OF GRANT OF PLANNING PERMISSION – Carry out highway works to Route Militaire (widen carriageway along west side of Route Militaire, reposition wall and install 2 sets of traffic lights) associated with the construction of a new junction to industrial site” all decided on 10/5/2011.
