Too many are just rubbish at putting their refuse out

Burnt Lane residents who put rubbish out on the wrong day are endangering others, says Health and Social Services.
The steps and alleyways of the area are covered with bin bags that get ripped open by animals – prompting pupils at Notre Dame du Rosaire Primary to ask the constables to install CCTV cameras to catch the culprits.
An HSSD spokesman said some residents put out binsacks ‘without regard to the actual day of collection or how long they will sit on the street.
‘There are health risks associated with some kinds of refuse and accident risks associated with items such as broken glass.’

Why not just put leafets threw the doors in the area rather than spend £100′s on cctv?

The sensible way to alleviate the problem is to supply a large green community refuse bin so that the binsacks can go in there – problem solved. Other than that catch the culprits and fine them.

@John
Leaflets cost, if the various depts responsible put these out (and into letter boxes) they would be multi coloured, hyped up and very costly for us and, would not deter fly tippers.
@Zelda
A large green community bin would not encourage residents, wherever, to split their waste materials. Black sacks can and do disguise a multitude of detritus.
Far better, although an eyesore, would be to have three communal waste bins; paper (media material) cardboard and plastics; household waste, glass, (securely wrapped); garden (green) waste.

And where would you put these bins in Burnt Lane

I have never understood the need for separate bins. Just collect it all and then sort it.
This would also create a few jobs. It would save money by not having to have separate bins.
Other countries do it this way.

If every one did as they were asked to do it would not happen .i too lived in a very small bedsit .and also had rubbish to get rid of
If they stick to the law of twice a week i can see no problem.
all this rubbish is probably coming from else where anyway
people need to keep a look out and take numbers of the cars that drop it off and be willing to go to court to say who did it
until them it will continue
it make me so mad to see our parish swamp with rubbish from some uncaring person the sooner we get tough with them the better !

I think some people just don’t know when their bin day is so you could target the bad areas by sticking an A4 sheet of paper that says, ‘your bin day is sunday and wednesday (or what ever days it is for that street), rubbish to be left out no earlier than 10pm’ in their letter box. Then monitor for 2 weeks and if no improvement I bet here is something in the rubbish that identifies which house/flat it is from…and then prosecute! I wouldn’t fancy going through the bag though..yuck!
However I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it is due to people going away for two weeks or leaving the Island and leaving before the next bin day, so they leave their rubbish out earlier.
There should be a covered bin somewhere in town that you can take your bag if you are going away before your next bin day.
