Queen’s 100 tested by wind

TEN days of torrential rain showers at Bisley had forced competitors into frequent battles to keep gear, guns and ammunition dry.
But although Queen’s Prize Final dawned with a return to summer, there was a nasty sting in the tail – a devilish wind on Stickledown and the 900 and 1,000 yards ranges, where the day’s big event was to take place.
At the shorter of the two ranges, the 100 Queen’s finalists, five of whom were Guernseymen, coped, more or less, with the wind conditions that were thrown at them.
Nick Mace finished 17th with 70.7v at 900 yards, 71.8v at 1,000 yards to total (with Queen’s Stage II added) 291.32v ex 300.60v; Adam Jory, 28th, 72.6v, 69.6v, 290.28v; Peter Jory, 74.8v, 66.4v, 288.30v; Andy Burton, 66th, 73.6v, 65.2v, 286.27v; Matt Guille, 92nd, 70.4v, 64.4v, 281.30v.
